Tourism Ecuador: Humpback whales
These mammals (jorobadas in spanish) bend their backs to shoot out of the water and fall back with an awesome splash, so they are called “humpback whales”. This happens as part of a ritual in times of mating and reproduction off the coast of Manabi Ecuador, specifically in the warm waters between Puerto Lopez and “Isla de la Plata”, known as “whale sanctuary” area.
Humpback whale mating season
Most of the humpbacks arrive from Antarctica to the Ecuadorian coast between June and October.
